Statistics is the science of learning from data, and measuring, controlling, and communicating uncertainty and it thereby provides the navigation essential for controlling the course of scientific and societal advances. Recording of statistics is sometimes mandated by law, but in other instances, is entirely voluntary. Even required government statistics often change over the years.
Data
Data is the raw information from which statistics are created. Raw data is the direct result of research that was conducted as part of a study or survey. It is a primary source. It usually comes in the form of a digital data set that can be analyzed using software such as Excel, SPSS, SAS, and so on.
