As a business student, much of the research you will need to do in your studies will not involve traditional scholarly research, like in many other subjects. Instead, you will likely find yourselves needing to do Company, Industry and Country research. This means you will need to find information about specific companies, such as identifying SWOT factors, finding annual report informations, identifying marketing strategies, and more. You may also need to find information on the industries in which the companies operate, such as information about the market, barriers to entry and room for growth. Country factors, such as PESTLE analysis, can have huge impacts on the way a market operates.
Finding company, industry and country data is different in some ways from doing traditional scholarly research. The databases you need to use to find this information can be very different from scholarly databases, and you may find you need to do more research using other search engines such as Google to find information. Many of the databases you will use are extremely specific - they may only cover Australian industries, or public companies, and you may need to browse or use different search techniques to find what you're looking for.
This guide provides a starting place for learning which databases you can use for what, and where to find other resources to support your research. If you need more assistance, please book an appointment with a librarian.
